Thread: Kernel upgrade kills VGA controller
hey guys,
upgraded xubuntu 12.10 13.04 tonight running
, kernel 3.5.x 3.8.xcode:sudo do-release-upgrade -d
i'm on dell studio laptop, (core 2 duo, 3gb ram, ati mobilty radeon 3000 series).
when rebooting in, system didnt recognize vga controller anymore (*-display unclaimed when "lshw").
tried hundreds of different solutions fix it, amongst them:
- installing fglrx , reinstalling
- installation via amdccl , aticonfig
- complete reinstall of kubuntu-desktop
- fix packages
- dpkg-configure xserver-xorg
- ...
nothing helped. guess kernel update's problem?
else having similar issues?
it's okay, manually boot older kernel in grub.
else do?
hi
have looked in log files ?
that start looking clues happening.code:/var/log/xorg.0.log
narrow down search using grep.
if returns nothing, you'll need visual inspection of 1 of log files know boot bad.code:grep "ee" /var/log/xorg.{0,1,2,3}.log{,.old}
that's start.
how far boot process btw ?
kind regards
