Thread: Dual Architecture Upgrade?

just random observation. i'm doing "in-place" upgrade 12.10 13.04, , seems installing lot of things twice. example see:

code:
setting libproxy1:amd64 (0.4.11-0ubuntu1) ... setting libproxy1:i386 (0.4.11-0ubuntu1) ...
for lot of packages. there particular reason this? curious, long doesn't affect system stability i'll trust updater.

most cause of when have 64bit sys installed (arch = x86_64) somewhere along line installed ia32-libs package... or installed when installed 32bit package in 64bit system. package's info:
code:
this transitional package depending on ia32-libs-multiarch, i386-only metapackage depends on of libraries included in package.
it allows install , run 32bit packages on 64bit systems...

how have both 32bit , 64bit libraries being installed. me, normal.
