Thread: password and reboot problem

i'm new ubuntu user (as of 2 days ago) , having problem admin password. got asus x201e preloaded ubuntu. came temporary admin user, , added admin user. not prompted create password user, asked password each time try admin task (in users panel under system settings says "account disabled" in password box). under original temp user don't have admin privileges, , therefore can't make changes system. have tried requires me have admin password, knowledge doesn't exist! i've tried potential default passwords (carriage return, admin, password, default, ubuntu) none of them has worked.

have tried reboot in rescue mode recommended few posts read, system not seem reboot. screen goes blank when restart or shut down, shortly returns ubuntu. holding down shift key during process doesn't change anything. i'd try next step, not sure how proper reboot grub menu.

NIK SELECTIVE TOOL INTERMITTANT FAILURE.

ref: win7-64 /ps cs6 /google-nik collection.   after working "a time", select brush option in nik plugin, & when image "re-opens" in ps, plugin has selected ps brush tool, & can paint on effect i'd created, selective tool interface fails open, & there's no way apply or discard effect. at point ps "hung", waiting command either apply, or discard brush effect, can't done without selective tool interface; , way out, ctrl/alt/del close photoshop-- & lose work!  (results in ps appscrash result). the selective tool folder contained selectivepalette.8li file, along seltoolinst.cfg (instructional script tool??), , hdrefexpro2.jsx file. nik told me hdrefexpro2.jsx file did not belong there, & delete it, , sent me seltoolinst.cfg file replace existing one; , fixed problem short time! now works awhile, fails.---wont open either brush command, or automate. i check folder, & "something" has placed/re-placed deleted  hdrefex...
