Thread: server on old laptop?
been playing old laptop had set parents few years ago, got new laptop got back. old compaq presario 2500. i've updated memory 1gb, removed internal broadcom wireless adapter , using tenda w322u usb wireless n 300mbps adapter.
i've been trying out few linux's , 3 ubuntu's, , have found xubuntu choice now.
i've been thinking tonight - 3 laptops in house beside old thing. have 500gb usb drive used backup 2 of laptops. use 750gb usb drive dell. so.......
think wouldn't 750gb usb drive (usb 2) on old laptop, have ideas on how simple server installation on laptop, using 750gb usb drive, might work cheap version of nas (wireless n) of backups?
thoughts appreciated. @ point it's not worth spending more on old thing - except maybe larger hard drive - need stick within current configuration.
edit: btw - i'd stand-alone can stick corner somewhere , ignore it. small nas software boots cd better choice? able shut lid without sleeping or hibernating - i'm sure play make work.
thanks!
it iwll work. can run os usb if want occasioanlly writeable.
turn off power management , computer won't shut off when close lid.
have @ openmediavault (debian based) nas
