Thread: need recommendations on buying new MB & Vid card

hi,
after 7 years, old trusty desktop bit dust.
in market new desktop need recommendations
on mb & vid card work ubuntu ( xubuntu ).

want amd ( not intel ) , want 8 gigs ram start, expand 16 gigs.
tend use computer until falls apart, plan on keeping long time, therefore like
more toward high end, idea might able upgrade long possible,
don't want go overboard on price , super-high end.
also, run 12.04 lts

NIK SELECTIVE TOOL INTERMITTANT FAILURE.

ref: win7-64 /ps cs6 /google-nik collection.   after working "a time", select brush option in nik plugin, & when image "re-opens" in ps, plugin has selected ps brush tool, & can paint on effect i'd created, selective tool interface fails open, & there's no way apply or discard effect. at point ps "hung", waiting command either apply, or discard brush effect, can't done without selective tool interface; , way out, ctrl/alt/del close photoshop-- & lose work!  (results in ps appscrash result). the selective tool folder contained selectivepalette.8li file, along seltoolinst.cfg (instructional script tool??), , hdrefexpro2.jsx file. nik told me hdrefexpro2.jsx file did not belong there, & delete it, , sent me seltoolinst.cfg file replace existing one; , fixed problem short time! now works awhile, fails.---wont open either brush command, or automate. i check folder, & "something" has placed/re-placed deleted  hdrefex...
