Thread: sudo apt-get install gnome*

i got ubuntu 13.04 on laptop got 1024x600 screen, unity bar on left hand side ruins many sites , annoys hell out of me, miss windows startmenu + @ bottom + can see other windows behind window i'm viewing.

did sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop, didn't @ far tell did sudo apt-get install gnome* see if missing anything... , got _everything_ runs disgusting blue looking thing hate more @ 1 fps. did ctrl+alt+f1 , logged in , wrote sudo apt-get remove gnome* , got no desktop...

go awful place desktop looks windows(when comes start-menu & keeping _everything_ @ bottom)?

, there way of putting terminal / synaptic / firefox or other ubuntu programs desktop? (i shortcut person.. shortcuts supposed on desktop)

and able choose gnome2 session @ greeter...

sudo apt-get install gnome-panel

will add 2 entries session menu
gnome classic.....uses compiz window manager.
gnome classic(no effects).....uses metacity window manager.

in unity can drag applications dash on desktop.
