Thread: Cannot connect to ethernet with wired connection - 12.10
i new ubuntu (installed ubuntu 12.10 desktop on mac mini today ubuntu iso – mac mini had blank ssd on i.e. no os x @ all).
first drama ubuntu installer seems setup dhcp whereas lan static ip based.
anyway, ubuntu installed okay except seems have gone loopback mode , cannot find ethernet adapter on mac mini.
doing 'ifconfig -a' confirms loopback.
doing lspci reveals following:
01:00.0 ethernet controller: broadcom corporation netxtreme bcm57766 gigabit ethernet pcie (rev 05)
tried following:
setting /etc/hosts file include:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.2 merlot
wanted set /etc/network/interfaces file have:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
except eth0 doesn't seem exist far ubuntu concerned.
192.168.0.1 modem/router connects directly internet.
wanted edit /etc/resolv.conf specify dns name servers (3 in total) should used except resolv.conf file contained text warning me file overwritten don't bother doing manually in file.
checking 'system settings > network' cannot see wired ethernet @ all. there is, reason, 'network proxy' defined. messagebox appears saying:
"the system network services not compatible version."
have not been able establish network connection @ all.
1. can try fix this?
2. need driver somewhere , can install said driver without having recompile kernel?
3. there gui way of setting network parameters or editing hosts, resolv.conf (???), , interfaces file way?
4. how can find ethernet mac address terminal (i couldn't doing 'ifconfig -a')?
on stock install of 12.10 on mac mini late 2012 broadcom card in got working using info here.
works you,
