How can I fit 75 pages into Illustrator?

i'm working on rulebook boardgame.  each page has vector art , text blocks intermixed explain rule mechanics.  exists 75 individual illustrator files need combined single pdf document. 

 

obstacle 1:  illustrator doesn't have enough space 75 artboards

 

obstacle 2:  using copy-paste put each indesign doesn't work:  each line of text becomes individual text block (and therefore uneditable).

 

obstacle 3:  using place function put each .ai file indesign loads each page uneditable picture.  i'd have open each individual page in illustrator make change.

 

background:  rulebook created in ten-year-old version of macromedia freehand, not work on new imac.  converting illustrator resulted in 75 individual .ai files

 

 

is there way allow more space in illustrator hold more artboards?  can 2 exported .pdf files merged (so rulebook done 2 or more .ai files)? 

if have cs4 or newer

 

obstacle 1: yes does, limit 100 artboards. spacewise, can fit 100 letter size artboards

 

obstacle 3: can place each ai file in each of 75 artboards in illustrator , maintain editability

 

 

or can use acrobat pro combine 75 ai files if saved pdf compatibility.
