Thread: 13.04 Just a few remarks about the taskbar

-

okay taskbar horrible ever (meaning since it's been changed worse, hasn't become better @ all).

1) can't move bottom of screen, or anywhere else.
2) trying drag icon grabs icons @ once, , doing has no effect. utterly meaningless thing have implemented.
3) drag icon, first need drag right, dragging right make sense making shortcut on desktop. brings me (4)...
4) can't make shortcuts on desktop. let me repeat that, emphasis: can't make shortcuts on desktop. mean, honestly, why?
5) start menu still fullscreen. totally overkill.
6) no apparant way browse software installed on pc.
7) taskbar , top bar have no right-click menu. feels missing, because in linux' nature, should customizable , therefor needs menu that.
8) speaking of top bar, why can't move somewhere else, too?
9) why not merge top bar , taskbar one, windows brilliantly?
10) rightclick menu icon (on taskbar again) has few options. when application isn't running, properties seems missing. when running, maximize/restore/minimize seems missing. no way open second instance.
11) top bar fades between application name , it's menu. confusing. there's enough space , reason keep menu in view time.
12) maximized applications have no visible restore/minimize/close buttons (only invisible ones, made visible hovering top bar). confusing.

that's now. windows 7 again, of these things right.

disclaimer: i'm not looking windows 7 clone! i'm looking sensible gui. kde not sensible 1 either, it's bloated , start button (on keyboard) doesn't work. xde fine, bit "too classic" taste, more sensible.

this should in cafe it's not issue can "fix".

unity set works same using mouse using touch screen, explains of gripes. ubuntu not option, if don't unity, try kubuntu, lubuntu or xubuntu. or linux mint.

find:

taskbar @ bottom.
dragging , dropping icons works way expect to.
making shortcuts on desktop in kubuntu easy.
restore / minimise / close work expect them to: dragging windows 1 side of screen makes them fill half of screen.

etc. etc.

no need give quite easily.

having returned pc gaming platform, (after having left consoles many years ago), i'm debating whether add gaming desktop collection, i'm interested in getting comparison between current laptop, , of newer equipment out there. laptop lenovo e420, i3-2310m, hd3000 graphics. scored 854 under glmark2, in windowed mode cinnamon running. i'd see everyone's scores, (please include graphic card have), , i'm interested in amd apu's (for budgetary reasons). i'd sure see gtx 680 & hd 7970 can do, if salivate at. (i'm under impression these current top-end chipsets each manufacturer) if you've never used glmark2, try it. takes ~5 minutes on system. code: sudo apt-get install glmark2 && glmark2 for better performance numbers, save work logged out this , switch tty, (ctrl+alt+f1), run following: code: sudo service gdm stop || sudo service lightdm stop; xinit /usr/bin/glmark2 --fullscreen; sudo service gdm ...
