greetings all,

small rather annoying vlc glitch.

vlc plays files long on internal or external drive - no dvds cd-rom. flashes moment - nothing else happen.

main platform ubuntu 12.04, have dual boot setup windows 7 - latter mere auxiliary (just video capturing , music notation). find vlc useful, too, transforming .flv other video formats, why has been installed in windows 7 well. neither ubuntu nor windows 7 play dvds (commercial & recordable) cd-rom: ubuntu not vlc , windows 7 not vlc regular kind of player(s): image & sound, in latter case, gruesomely distorted.

how best around this?

are sure isn't dvd-rom drive?
it's physically impossible cd-rom player read dvd.
trying read bluray in dvd player.
