Thread: Eye strain after upgrade . . . . some ideas?

hi all,

have ubuntu 13.04 , problem screen after installing gnome 3.8.

started installing gnome-shell , fine.
after installed :ubuntu-gnome-desktop

noticed font in top bar sharper in both gnome 3.8 , unity.
when run gnome or unity terrible eye strain.
pic, maybe hard see it.

there else has had problem?

dpi settings
xrdb -query | grep dpi
xft.dpi: 96
xdpyinfo | grep dots
resolution: 90x88 dots per inch

have modified xdpyinfo using xorg.conf 120x120 has no effect on font
size in gnome.

have tried (i think) , except reinstalling ubuntu.
tried nvidia drivers 3.04, 3.10 , 3.13. uninstalling gnome 3.8 has no effect. setting somewhere i'm out of ideas.

hard describe tired after 30 min of using computer vs whole day before.

ideas?

the fonts quite okay when @ login screen.
after log in see fonts changing , becoming extremely sharp.

NIK SELECTIVE TOOL INTERMITTANT FAILURE.

ref: win7-64 /ps cs6 /google-nik collection.   after working "a time", select brush option in nik plugin, & when image "re-opens" in ps, plugin has selected ps brush tool, & can paint on effect i'd created, selective tool interface fails open, & there's no way apply or discard effect. at point ps "hung", waiting command either apply, or discard brush effect, can't done without selective tool interface; , way out, ctrl/alt/del close photoshop-- & lose work!  (results in ps appscrash result). the selective tool folder contained selectivepalette.8li file, along seltoolinst.cfg (instructional script tool??), , hdrefexpro2.jsx file. nik told me hdrefexpro2.jsx file did not belong there, & delete it, , sent me seltoolinst.cfg file replace existing one; , fixed problem short time! now works awhile, fails.---wont open either brush command, or automate. i check folder, & "something" has placed/re-placed deleted  hdrefex...
