hi there, carried out dual boot install (ubuntu 11.10 on acer aspire 1 zg8 netbook xp). whilst manually adjusting partitions made stupid error , changed sda 2 ntfs (the main windows data drive) directly linux swap. after damage done (it formatted part of process), reassigned partitions hope more sensible shape... [sda1 ntfs 6gb pqservice (original , unchanged)] [sda4 primary ext4 /home 130gb] [sda3 & sda5 (extended) logic linux swap 2gb] [sda2 ext4 / 10gb (boot)] after successful install followed successful upgrade 12.04 have grub ubuntu options windows, 'recovery environment (loader)', which, when used, says says runs succesfully. i'm sure there's simple explanation. i'm backing pc external device , backup never same. same amount of files , subfolders size difference of 100 bytes or so. why this? file size or disk usage? if backup drive has different block size may change internal fragmentation, changing disk usage same files. that's because drives not addressable on byte level, on higher level. same happens if first concatenate files (like packing them in tar archive). reduces internal fragmentation , disk usage. , i'm not sure this, size of directories might change on different partition type. hey all, made mistake of doing factory reset on wife's new samsung galaxy s3 android phone running 4.1.1. , deleting photos , videos of kids. earlier versions of android phone's internal memory show on pc sd card. version however, internal memory shows media device. since android linux based i'm under impresson should able recover pictures using linux software. have suggestions? keep in mind while have dabbled in linux, still know enough break it.lol. phone rooted btw. factory reset = no chance @ recovery. sorry. had factory reset on android tablet , erased everything. fortunately, made backups first. so, problem. have freshly installed 12.10 on dell laptop work. able join domain no issues utilizing centrifydc. before rebooting, , before logging out, make changes sudoers file allow particular users have sudo power on box. works great. initial user set though @ point not work. when i'm in system in gui, such adding network connection , try make change requires me provide password, it's still prompting specific user's (by name) password, no longer works. can work around starting gui command line, rather solve this. also, when downloaded tgz centrify, after unpacking, should installing of files using install.sh? i'm curious if possibly solve problem, haven't done yet. i accepted upgrade kernel 3.2.0-38 , unable insmod ralink rt2860 driver getting error message "insmod: error inserting '/etc/wireless/rt2860sta/rt2860sta.ko': -1 invalid parameters" rt2800pci driver blacklisted default in etc/modprobe.d/blacklist being garbage, 1 works on system. have been through 3 previous kernel upgrades , have been able restore ralink driver. , agree rt2800pci driver less desirable. have commented blacklist not have modprobe every time log on. have been trying loyal supporter of ubuntu since feisty, stuff needs straightened out regular kind of folks. wireless connections kind of important. have idea how fix this? i removed traces of rt2860 driver , reinstalled it. fixed problem. 3 previous kernel upgrades did not require me this. i have 2 network drives wanted pinned launcher in unity. when first mounted them, both automatically appeared, after, 1 of them vanished. in .local/share, created 2 .desktop files (mediashare.desktop , mediadata.desktop), edited them in gedit, dragged them launcher. problem solved. well, not quite. whenever click nautilus icon on launcher, whether it's mediadata, mediashared, or stock "files" icon, icon gets highlighted active icon mediadata one. contents of .desktop file are: code: [desktop entry] version=1.0 type=application name=network (data) comment=network (data) exec=nautilus /media/data icon=folder-remote x-ubuntu-gettext-domain=mediadata is there in here cause icon 1 that's highlighted active item? beginner question:   so i've built index page in dw cc using fluid grid layout feature.   my site construction consists of   index.html page boilerplate.css layout.css style.css respond.min.js   the index page uses basic template tags such header, article, aside, h1-5, p, etc etc   the site working great , works responsively expect.   however, problem want add second html page site want have different layout, css style , fluid grid. consistent elements master index page header , navigation menu.   since styles of html index page linked master css pages how go adding different responsive layout same site without changes affecting master page?   for example if duplicate index page , start changing layout affects entire site, not want.   so thought need duplicate files , rename them like   page_2.html layout_2.css style_2.css and 'boilerplate.css' , 'respond.min.js' not duplicated , stay are.   ...but not sure if thats best practice du...

hi everyone, i'm having strangest problem, in sound settings see "headphones - builtin audio" appearing , disappearing continuously. problem flickering not visual, mute i'm playing split second every 1 second. have absolutely no headphones connected, not via bluetooth. way i've found make stop connecting headphones! can't understand if i'm having hardware problem, or if it's wrong in config. have intel hda realtek , i've switched 2.0 speaker , instead of 2.1 had before. if check alsamixer during flickering, see channels 5.1 being muted/unmuted, despite mode being set "analog stereo output". think can live headphones connected, i'd know why has encountered kind of issues? cheers sounds hardware problem, within headphone jack. wouldn't hurt describe computer. hello, here env , happened. host os : windows. guest os : ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. set virtual box(latest version), , installed ubuntu 10.04 64 bit version...and worked fine...everything fine couple of month.... however, problem that...my laptop unexpectedly shut down because of battery issue while using ubuntu guest os... right after that....when started ubuntu guest os, of time worked fine..however, sometimes, intermittently, in booting, got error message.. kernel panic – not syncing: io-apic + timer doesn't work! boot apic=debug , send report. try booting 'noapic' option. never have seen before....so...i tried couple of things... 1. reinstalled kernel --- re-installation ok..however, error message still shows in booting intermittently... 2. understand may(or may not..) work 'noapic' option (don't know haven't tried yet), don't want take route solve issue option never used , know able use ubuntu guest os without ki...

well, made install disk of ubuntu 12.10, following boot cd guide ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/bootfromcd ) did correctly , stuff, pc not boot it. know how make boot , works windows 7 install disk. why isn't booting , how can fix it? hi! had problem earlier. have changed boot order boot cd? check if have "fast bios mode" enabled. if have so, disable it. luck! having been ubuntu user while, switched mint 13 recently. until had buy new pc had windows 7 - 64bit installed. hasn't taken me long realise how dislike it. thought dual boot using mint 14 along side windows 7. used mint 14- 64 bit iso disc , got far linux mint desktop. worked great cd. there clicked on install mint icon on desktop start dual boot install. when install process came choosing how windows 7 , mint should share of hard drive, slid slider share partition between windows , mint, giving windows 7 more space store images. moment later warning box appeared mint installation, said mint not installed , check cd clean. here problem. before dual boot installation attempt, had 2 terabite hard drive, showing hard drive size down 1.3 terabites. did .7 tb go , how back? computer still under guarantee before mess things further, can advise please. thread moved " other os/distro talk " forum. ...

i apologise if seems silly question i'm still struggling head around management of files when using dreamweaver. know meant create root file have created on desktop. websites there in create in dreamweaver go sub files within main file or supposed have more 1 root file?   ive assumed create 1 point. have further issues.. example when creating fluid grid website go through steps of first creating sub folder new site in main root file dreamweaver, save css file in when asked, , save main html file there under 'save as' well... then, know, creates 2 seperate files, 'boilerplate' , 'respond' instead of placing them sub folder site places them in root file instead of in sub folder in root file (if makes sense). if move them manually sub folder keep things tidy mess files up? dreamweaver know them in sub folder opposed root file automatically keeps putting them?   or have got complete wrong end of stick in uderstanding how file management works together?   any app...
