Thread: Sound problem--no analogue device showing

i installed ubuntu 12.04 first time on dell e1405 laptop. played song on rhythmbox thru laptop speakers fine. later went sound settings , clicked on device showing under "play sound through"--that device digital output (s/pdif) built in audio. when tried play song, there no sound through laptop speakers. there appears no way return previous device or unselect digital output.

ran aplay -l , received this:
card 0: intel [hda intel], device 0: stac92xx analog [stac92xx analog]
subdevices: 1/1
subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: intel [hda intel], device 1: stac92xx digital [stac92xx digital]
subdevices: 1/1
subdevice #0: subdevice #0

single card (motherboard sound) has device 0 analog , device 1 digital. cannot device 0 show available in "play sound through" list.

tried reinstalling alsa, there has been no change.
thank you.
