really not sure seeing here. have setup 12.10 system raid 5 using highpoint 640 , 4x2tb wd red drives. working planned. have highpoint software setup email me on events. occasionally, , mean 1 every 2 weeks or so, emails 'drive x on contoller1-channely samrt test result:failed!’. seems more rlated reboots of system rather idle activity. ok that’s fine. issue emails random across channels. when go webgui software @ shi(smart) data can see drives , smart data or of drives. each refresh of browser changes, some, or random channels failed. don’t think have actual drive failing. i’m pretty confident drives not failing @ same time. leave few variables attempting isolate. software in ubuntu? issue highpoint drivers? western digital reds? combination of three? insight appreciated. not overly concerned email raid controller can raise eyebrow. want see things happening. ~

hello, have pc , girlfriend has laptop both running ubuntu 12.10. bought hp deskjet 3052a. able run printer without problem when 'hard connect' using provided usb cable however, need able both print using wireless option. printer connected our home wireless network. option came across far online using hplip , using either pc or laptop print server. however, doesn't work have both machines running our opposing work schedules , don't want have keep them both running 24/7 1 of able print our machine. want keep printer connected our wireless network separately , able print wirelessly either machine. appreciate any/all help. i've been happily using ubuntu (12.10 & 13.04 daily) 2 months. i've noticed on different sites differing advice cleaning junk off of hard drives. i'm relative novice regarding linux have great deal of computing experience. i've made remastersys backup of 12.10 , using 13.04 daily exclusively on laptop. daily routine 13.04 sudo apt-get {update, upgrade, dist-upgrade, clean, autoclean, autoremove, bleachbit} i'm perplexed 'junk' i've been removing daily hard drive using bleachbit. 30 - 50 mb freed. i've never experienced fault upon reboot, , appears normal. experience expected when using 'beta' above procedures? advice should provided relatively inexperienced users regarding disk cleanup? clean, autoclean , autoremove part of bleachbit. doing commands separately not nercessary. , don't think daily necessary, once month if have go schedule. use 6 or 8 times ye

hello, we're running ubuntu server 12.04 , apache2 serve out webpage , it's running fine. however, owner of site password protect entire website including homepage located in /var/www folder. i've been able password protect "subfolder" below root no problem, e.g., /var/www/testfolder or /var/www/forms i'm unable root folder (/var/www) password protected using similar setup. i'd read it's best avoid using .htaccess file method , instead modify httpd.conf file in /etc/apache2 folder specify folder(s) should password protected. so, created password file named "passwords" using htpasswd utility , stored password file in new folder created isn't located on website (/usr/local/apache). edited httpd.conf file in /etc/apache2 folder , contains following lines - <directory "/var/www/testfolder"> authtype basic authname "restricted" authbasicprovider file authuserfile /usr/local/apache/pa

my sata drive 2009 , has been under circumstances it's not "pleasant" drive, such blackouts (lots of them). on ubuntu 12.04 smart reported 4029 bad sectors. zero-fill on drive , read reallocates bad sectors. so, if reallocate, why "a failure imminent"? why should worry? replace drive. guess on 4000 bad sectors, you've maxed out spare sectors, sit around couple hundred. meaning write placed in bad sector, moved ether no spare sectors available.
