have imported several vms, ubuntu 12.04 , windows server 2008 amd 4-core pc amd 8-core pc. vms working on former pc without problem. re-config has been made on them after import such networking, uname, etc. comes notice one/two ubuntu 12.04 doesn't work such broadcasting on web without sound, screen diming , returning normal etc.

in experience, migrating vm between machines works. easier if "export vm" if move vm.vdi/.vmdk/.img files around, however.
have migrated vms esxi --> vbox --> kvm way.
xen-paravirtual --> kvm little harder. basically, os needed installed under kvm, non-os app , data files xen restored.

real key doing these migrations watch virtualized hardware between source , target vm. esxi defaults lsi disk controller. @ time, specific controller driver not available in either vbox or kvm or xen.

don't use sound in vms, sorry. check virtualized hardware correct.
