i ran upgrade form 12.04 13.04, , worked fine. laptop ran out of power, , when powered on again have weird problem personal account. when try log in, loging splash screen gets stuck background, , can't anything, except switch account. guest-account works fine, logged one, , tried switch own. worked, except desktop background black, , unity isn't responsive when show desktop. new software added dconf editor, hadn't changed yet. ideas, or should try clean install? weird thing working couple of days, until computer ran out of power during lecture. in advance. hello,   i want convert of text paragraph style i've called 'body', not superscript characters within it.   i've tried changing superscript characters font , colour before doing find , replace still reformatted along rest of text.   does know if there way this?  there can find replace ignore superscript characters?   cheers     create character style called superscript contains superscript attribute.   do find , replace find text set superscript, , apply character style it.   once done, character style override new parapgrah style. since there no other attributes called out in character style, rest of paragraph style apply, text stay superscript. hi, i've got ap problem xubuntu 12.10. i'm using dual monitors , installed packages make work. funny thing did work required random hassling option untill confing working. repeated every time machine booterd , seemed work. howeven, has stopped working , can't again... when configure xfce4 use dual screen second screen turn blue, no further output used, no windows placable on screen , cursor cannot reach it. funny thing desktop environment seems render ther interface nicely. workspace tabs wide , dektop show on screenshots, still no usable output on screen. i'vre tried replacing vga cable , runs ising dvi (hdmi<->dvi) , still no luck, think ati card installed. things tried removing old xfce4 configurations , rebooting multiple time. perhaps has suggestions? hi guys, i'm having bit of issue booting ubuntu 12.10 multiple graphics cards. 2 card in question amd radeon hd 7950 , amd radeon hd 5850. had drivers 7950 installed, rebooted, inserted 5850, , when tried log in, compiz crash, , 2 cards become hot. tried shutting down, removing 5850, rebooting, uninstalling 7950 drivers (booting w/o 5850 worked fine), shutting down, putting in 5850, rebooting. time couldn't logon screen, , wouldn't let me access vterms either (ctrl+alt+f{1..6}), , had power off manually. reasoning behind want use 5850 in linux, , using kvm pass 7950 windows vm. thoughts or solutions appreciated. can logs in bit, pressed time earlier, , i'm not @ computer now. looked @ system logs , showed compiz dying , restarting (before uninstalling 7950 drivers) i'd prefer not boot both cards in until can figure out why they're heating :/ i have not used kvm, might incorrect or

hello all, been running raring little on 1 day. 64-bit bit installation fresh "/" , retained "/home" split between ssd , hdd. things seem running pretty well; i'm happy method of upgrading distributions. however, in unity dash (search) when type in "software sources" broken icon (sort of fuzzy ubuntu cd disk+logo) software settings. if left-click app runs fine. if right-click "properties" of app along right icon. since retained profile old build of ubuntu 12.10 need delete sort of hidden dash settings file? minor irritation, updated computer in same fashion , "problem" did not duplicate there. btw, on first time through upgrade did try installing nvidia drivers resultant loss of unity , desktop. after getting first noticed above problem. later reverted open source driver fuzzy ubuntu cd+logo still there. far haven't noticed other busted icons in software sources. edit: have second user account

had lot of time on hands weekend decided testing on t61 thinkpad "was" dual booted win7 , ubuntu 12.04. on ubuntu partition tested several different versions of 13.04, xubuntu, ubuntu/unity, , ubuntu/gnome. did not include lubuntu in mix. tested extensively @ 12.04 , found hard customize liking. overall, each installed quite nicely , operated bug free. here quick observations. ubuntu/unity: interface , prefer use it. however, hud pain , 1 reason why can't. yes, uses resources. xubuntu: have liked distro, it's old friend, comfortable , known , polish has improved on past few releases. wish ditch out of box splash screen @ login time bit more attractive. ubuntu/gnome: hoping see 3.8 not case. however, few gnome extensions nice. 1 (dash dock) keeps dash visible time unity comparable product. seems use less resources unity. in end, going keep ubuntu gnome since me, it's little bit better other two. but, still xubuntu

hello, have instability issues after recent upgrades (i don't know ones might responsible) in 12.04. i've checked memory memtest86+, scanned hard disk, , checked other possible hardware issues lm-sensors. nothing has come up. failures seem related graphics, i'm not sure how. compiz crashing frequently, ran ubuntu 2d hoping stability. helped in sense x didn't fail completely. when computer crashes programs may still , running firefox, isn't possible else @ all. don't think hardware issue, because memtest86+ ran night without difficulty. when ubuntu running, os crashes somewhere on 50 minutes regularity, whether or not i'm logged ubuntu desktop. updating kernel 3.2 3.5 did not help. neither did fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 live cd. last thing i'm trying install ubuntu 12.10 fresh in place of 12.04, , hope can solve problem. i've done this, won't boot @ all. i've looked @ message boards , tried boot-repair, twice now, did
