i'm running i3 desktop nvidia gt440, using 1920x1080 , 1440x900 monitors. booted 13.04 64 bit , within 30 minutes had 3 unity crashes. on 1 occasion, upside down , locked up. using , bam - chromium, empathy, , clementine - upside down. locked few seconds later. 2 hard reboots later (the first reboot brought me single monitor mode seemingly horrible 640x480 esque resolution), on. @ point decided install nvidia drivers. didn't want install nvidia drivers because wanted give nouveau fair chance seeing though reviews indicated nouveau pretty darn close nvidia these days in terms of performance. installed nvidia 313 + updates , things load faster , operate more smoothly. noticed applications lens when scrolling through applications smoother well. of being said, has ran issues graphics 13.04 , nouveau acts rather wild? have ton of faith in nouveau , i'm sure bug fixes come about. wanted check in other users see current experiences were.

hi,   i confused setting in illustrator's print dialogue box in output>printer resolution. illustrator offers number of predefined lpi/dpi combinations in drop down menu. 1- aren't lpi/dpi 2 parameters print shop controls? in other words, print shop sets 2 parameters , provide file ppi resolution (i have seen rule of thumb stating ppi > 2x lpi) 2- why not possible set lpi , dpi independently in illustrator? i have looked in variety of places solution , posting last resort. if redundant post apologize in advance. running ubuntu 12.10 "chrubuntu" on acer c7 , have had hard time trying windows 7 installed in virturalbox. whenever try start vm error: kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) virtualbox linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) either not loaded or there permission problem /dev/vboxdrv. please reinstall kernel module executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' root. if available in distribution, should install dkms package first. package keeps track of linux kernel changes , recompiles vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. have tried number of ways fix problem including: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-dkms - gives me error e: unable locate package virtualbox-dkm sudo apt-get install virtualbox-dkms know if able install virturalbox? uninstall , start on trying work i'm not sure how that. app

i'm running 12.10 , using onboard intel graphics - reported intel ivybridge /desktop. wife dowloaded attached pdf file , has large black rectangle on it. downloaded 12.04 machine (sandybridge intel chip) , black rectangle not there. copied 'good' file desktop hers , (magically) black rectangle appears. nothing original pdf file downloaded. reason, when pdf file placed on desktop appears (viewed via nautilus, document viewer, gimp, etc) black rectangle. should start looking @ see causing problem? interestingly i've copied 2 pdf files machine wifes , appear ok on desktop looks file specific. convertd pdf jpg on machine , them transferred , reads ok expecting. however, if transfer them wifes machine on own ntework or via usb stick appear black rectangle on desktop. i have saved photos , catalog on removable hard drive.  when laptop's techical support had unexpectedly replace laptop's hard drive, meant had reinstall photoshop elements 9, have done.  reason, catalog on removable hard drive showing created in photoshop elements 6 surprising since know had used in photoshop elements 9.  went ahead , converted catalog.  shows key tags,star ratings, , captions, etc.  except basic picture.  not looking files on removable hard drive.  can @ removable drive stored matching file name in appropriate subdirectories?  properties of pictures seem showing photos being @ various other locations no longer exist!  do?  not relish having reimport, re-caption, re-edit, etc., etc. hundreds of pictures.  photoshop's catalog sensitivity frustrating.  ready go product.  if have re-construct again, second re-construction of ps catalog.  , consider more forgivng product. it's original star wars trilogy soundtrack. volume swings 25 db or more, during same track. can't listen without riding volume knob. that's not hyperbole, cannot hear parts of if loud parts @ safe volume. it's not bootleg copy or anything; bought cd's. pathetic haven't done i'm trying do, if ask me.   raising volume of sterio doesn't create white noise, seems should able duplicate effect somehow, kind of dynamics processing. classic soft knee, example, has white noise problem. when used in talk radio business, amplify speaker's breaths. i've fiddled , tried come own settings without success. maybe need different tool entirely?   i'm doing son. he's 5 , loves star wars , loves listening music in car wherever go. thank can give! my first, tongue-in-cheek reaction say, done manufacturers of cd!!  allow "full" dynamic range of original released on cd!!   sorry, know not wanted hear, such pleasant change couldn't resist comment

i've been going nuts few days since brother mfc-7840w wireless scanner not being found xsane or simple scan. confirmed driver installed per brother linux website. ran brsaneconfig3 -d, showed , pinged device ok. showed ip address 192.168.1.101 on wireless network (there way check , set ip address on machine itself. see manual) anyway poking around configuration settings , found file /usr/local/brother/sane/brsanenetdevice3.cfg. when opened see 1 line of text: device=scanner , "mfc-7840w" , 0x4f9:0x1e5 , ip-address=192.168.1.100 so, change ip address 192.168.1.101. close file , xsane , simple scan both work! i'd activate hibernate on xubuntu raring ringtail 13.04. inactive default. use help. found fix said to: go directory /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/ , create file com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla (that's lowercase 'l' in extension , not number '1'). you'll need use sudo. add following content: [re-enable hibernate default] identity=unix-user:* action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate resultactive=yes 1. found directory, don't see how create new file. 2. how "use sudo" ? the simplest way open terminal, use "cd" command go directory: code: cd /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/ then create file using sudo , text editor so: code: sudo mousepad com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla paste in text , save. "using sudo" means prefixing command word "sudo"; tells system, "do following command root (admin) user".

so, i've upgraded gtx 460 se gtx 770 4gb , cut 81 minute render time on 1 project down 23 minutes awesome, have issue ae cs5.5 isn't allowing me use more 800mb of vram regardles of how many models i'm using. single 300k poly model takes me 700mb (using element 3d plugin). adding 20 more models ranging 20k 400k doesn't change vram usage @ all. stays around 700mb.   do have change setting after effects see have more vram can used store more models? i'm not asking fill 4gb, expecting @ least take advantage of 2 3gb. old 1gb card fill 900mb boosted number of models , scale down removed models. in advance help!     system specs: i7-3930k oc'd 4.5ghz gtx 770 4gb gpu 16gb 1866 ram (upgrading 48gb soon) ssd os , programs (no games) ssd scratch , media hdd audio , lower res media dual 23" 1080 monitors (hp 23xi) vram doesn't work way. video frame big,  , plug-in may or may not optimized graphics card or current version of drivers. i'd check element 3d folk

recently had system crash giving me ubuntu kernel panic not syncing vfs unable mount root fs on unknown-block tried boot onto usb live ubuntu, still end frozen screen, black screen, frozen splash screen, or scrambled text , random flashing colors... can boot ubuntu recovery console , have tried upgrade kernel with apt-get dist-upgrade, fails. need save computer. have ideas? i've tried fiddling boot options grub menu, have no idea grub futile...
