hey all i'm new ubuntu, have wanted give go while . . .so did. followed instructions letter , yet . . . > lappy wouldn't boot ubuntu, went windows 7 (although said didn't want windows 7 anymore when installing ubuntu). searched solution, founds loads incomprehensible me (i tried few thought). reinstalled ubuntu , worked (yay). > ext hd - then, wanting watch film, plugged in ext hd. when looking @ contents saw same folders see when click on 'computer' . . . weird huh? (and yes looking @ external hd, can tell name , appear when teh device plugged in , disappears when unplugged etc). after ext hd no longer readable other computer in house (osx, windows 7) or tv! lost ! pain ! in space of few hours have lost use of lappy , 490gb of files on hd. crazy how happen, followed instructions. advice on getting access files on hd (when looked @ on disk utility, there icon called linux swap not there before, suspect ubuntu has written ,

i have upgraded cc (from cs6) smart objects can't edited because cc can't find program made smart object (ie illustrator cs6). can shed light on problem?  don't want have reinstall cs6 , don't want both cs6 , cc on computer @ same time. editing illustrator file require version of illustrator installed.   and can have cs6 , cc installed @ same time. i have downloaded tarball file of jre7u17 java.com. cant understand how can install that! you don't want go anywhere near tarballs. on linux best way install software not windows way (go website , download something), open ubuntu software centre , search it. install straight central ubuntu repositories. way far easier , better lot of reasons. java have option of official oracle java, or open source implementation of java called openjdk. i'd go openjdk start, since official java based of these days anyway. i've never encountered problem before.  i've done differently applied few effects clips, such contrast , exposure, , nested clips.  i've dragged these sequences on timeline , trimmed , edited.  13 minute video plays 9 minutes, starts flickering, alternating black , white screens, in last minute crashes.  message "display drive stopped responding , has recovered."  i've tried internet suggestions--updated driver, etc.  i've begun replacing of nested sequences original imported assets, seems little, still same end result.  thoughts?   i'm working 1920 x 1080 assests @ 23.97 fps.  i've worked these before, no problem (though haven't had add many effects before).   i'm working on intel core i7-3770 gpu @ 3.40 ghz 10 gb.   thanks feedback.   doug what gpu , driver version? hey guys, new using linux , appreciate feedback. want able duel boot windows 8 , linux. have been attempting install linux ubuntu or mint on new toshiba satellite laptop came windows 8, have had several issues. have tried disabling securityboot, changing boot settings uefi cfm, , using life-usbs , nothing seems work. have been using 64bit installations of ubuntu or mint. having following 2 issues whenever try install ubuntu or mint. 1) there no internet detected (wired or wireless). when using windows 8, not have trouble connecting internet. - read 1 post suggested can internet issues if "allow computer turn off device save power" option checked wireless card under device manager -> properties -> power management. unchecked box , unfortunately did not fix issue. 2) when start installation process, not detect windows 8 operating system , therefore not have option of installing linux along side windows. have spent many hours trying fig

i beyond frustrated strange problem. converting thesis word pdf, , need retain bookmarks , hyperlinks in table of contents, table of figures, , table of tables.   when convert on (with accesibility options selected, bookmarking options), able bookmarks convert on , hyperlinks table of contents.   however, no matter do, hyperlinks in table of figures/tables not move over. different those? can them link? long document, doing hyperlinks hand incredibly tedious.   any advice/help?   i'm using acrobat pro. i bought photoshop elements 8 time back. after re-installing windows 7, can re-download p e 8? yes. adobe allows photoshop elements installed twice. can install on 2 computers. you can keep 2 installation limit active deactivating , removing program first computer. you'll find "deactivate" in menu. deactivate while computer connected internet. might have have disk in drive.be sure register adobe after install elements that, when time comes deactivate elements, can contact adobe support in case have questions. hello, is possible change project cache location in captivate 6 via registry change through group policy? or disable completely? personal shell folder has been redirected network location , captivate doesn't seem this. thanks in advance! captivate absolutely must have project cache folder , must on hard drive, not virtual network folder.   cp6 has terminal issues kind of os environment , there's no way resolve them.    i recommend update cp7 issues resolved. i have lenovo u310 full glass trackpad. there not dedicated left , right click buttons. can pretty click anywhere on trackpad except top. on ubuntu trackpad works kinda strange. clicking causes trackpad movs couple pixels around, annoying. increases in intensity if clicking on bottom of trackpad. know not how suppose behave because on windows dont have issue. think might because of driver controller on windows synaptics. idea on how deal problem? anyone? i've disassembled freenas drive , moving drives on ubuntu machine (12.10). pre-move: had 2 drives. 1 system (750gb) drive , 1 datadrive (1500gb) on abit ip35 pro mobo. has 6 sata ports on ich9 controller. has 2 esata ports on jmicron controller (not used) after-move: 4 more drives. maxing out internal sata ports. computer halts should boot drive telling me there isn't boot drive. i've checked boot order right. doesn't matter if 6 drives i'm using, i've tried 6 different drives in 4 spots left on before moving on drives. tried different cables. i've tried different psu. i've tried having second psu power 2 of drives since had suspiciouns power problem. tried replacing 2 of drives freenas system make sure doesn't try boot zfs volume 4 drives part of. did reset bios , didn't work. started messing sata settings in bios , booted 6 drives, ide instead of ahci. work ahci. not using ide port on mobo have idea? edit: did inst

hi guys, i'm trying set media server ubuntu 12.10 can access ps3. if there better alternatives xbmc out there, i'm open using them; xbmc first came across. couple questions... first, how should configure ufw? have disable in order ps3 discover media server. tried allowing 2869/tcp , 1900/udp did not work (ps3 still not discover media server). second, more importantly, when ps3 discover media server, video seems working fine. however, when select "music library" (on ps3), presented list of category folders: "genres," "albums," "artists," etc. etc. of these folders empty, despite library in xbmc being populated music (that is, can access music xbmc on pc) these folders ("genres," "artists," etc) not exist anywhere on pc, , cannot find them within xbmc application. when accessed pc, xbmc's music directory tree organized same way i've organized music on filesystem; not have "genres,
