How do I level the volume in a piece of music without creating white noise during silent/quiet parts

it's original star wars trilogy soundtrack. volume swings 25 db or more, during same track. can't listen without riding volume knob. that's not hyperbole, cannot hear parts of if loud parts @ safe volume. it's not bootleg copy or anything; bought cd's. pathetic haven't done i'm trying do, if ask me.

 

raising volume of sterio doesn't create white noise, seems should able duplicate effect somehow, kind of dynamics processing. classic soft knee, example, has white noise problem. when used in talk radio business, amplify speaker's breaths. i've fiddled , tried come own settings without success. maybe need different tool entirely?

 

i'm doing son. he's 5 , loves star wars , loves listening music in car wherever go. thank can give!

my first, tongue-in-cheek reaction say, done manufacturers of cd!!  allow "full" dynamic range of original released on cd!!

 

sorry, know not wanted hear, such pleasant change couldn't resist commenting on fact cd manufacturer not want "homogenise" dynamic levels.  however, realise create problem in circumstances of wishing play cd in car.

 

you correct, imo, looking @ use of compression reduce dynamic range, though talk of "white noise" concerning.  effect of compression reduce dynamic range by, were, "decreasing level of loudest , increasing level of quietest parts"; there danger increasing quietest parts increase "noise" suspect cd recorded in pretty near "ideal" conditions, i.e. noise floor far below quietest signal raising level of signal minimally increase "noise", if @ all.
