Thread: alt f2 does seem to run command

i'm running 2011 - 10. i'm running default desktop. it's mac os x icons on left.

read somewhere alt f2. alt f2 bring command prompt. entered terminal. see icons terminal, top, , screen shot.

tired clicking on terminal. pressed enter. screen disappeared, didn't terminal.

how run command alt f2?

what's easiest way terminal?

robert

you have 3 choices:

1. alt-f2 , type "gnome-terminal" (literal command)
2. super (windows) key , type "terminal" (intelligent search programs)
3. ctrl-alt-t (shortcut terminal)

once terminal running, can right click on icon in launcher (the icons on left) , "lock launcher". icon remains when terminal closed , can click on run terminal again.

alt-f2 runs arbitrary command. if icon gears on appears in dash (the overlay shows icons), doesn't mean there program associated command, means run if typed command @ command line. that's mean literal command above. sort of program search appear trying do, super key 1 want.
