Thread: Facing a series of malfunctions, Grub, ubuntu simultaneously

hi all

please pardon level of (in)competence in matters ubuntu.
facing sequence of problems, clarity's sake shall put down in chronological order.
had dual boot set ubuntu 12.04 , windows 7. couldn't log in windows 7. showed option in grub (still does), selecting changed screen color few seconds , grub menu reappeared.

saw posts mentioning purging grub, , tried doing seems after purging grub didn't reinstall , logged out grub rescue screen.

going through forums, came across post on boot repair. downloaded 'secure', created usb iso file , tried boot repair didn't work.
thought going upgrade 12.10 might solve problem usb stopped midway creating sort of unholy mess because though can see grub menu mentions ubuntu (and not usual long line containing words pae, generic ). prior ubuntu secure detected 12.04 , gave option upgrading.

says mutliple os present options installing alongside , deleting disk installation.

go yesterday (both os working data), sort of goal not sure how go getting out of mess.

i not sure @ now. windows issue windows , needed windows repairs. grub chainload windows , windows thing. changes grub or ubuntu not windows. minor fixes windows can done linux. have windows repaircd or flash drive?

have upgraded, may have other issues grub or ubuntu?? grub menu? ubuntu boot?

install in ubuntu livecd or usb or full repaircd boot-repair (for newer computers)
