Thread: Upgrading Kernel 3.0 to 3.1 in Ubuntu 11.10


what commands type terminal in order install kernel. have downloaded following files install kernel.
1.)linux-headers-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_i386.deb

2.) linux-headers-3.1.0-030100_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_all.deb

3.) linux-image-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_i386.deb

do install them? running ubuntu 11.10 x86 , kernel version 3.0.0-31-generic.

also, can tell me if reliable kernel version upgrade to.

reason wish upgrade kernel can use b43 driver broadcom wireless device. (the way can upgrade b43 driver if running 3.1+)

why ask want use driver, it's because want use aircrack-ng.

unless has suggestion can driver situation want upgrade kernels.

btw, i'm running "brcmsmac" driver broadcom device.

you have downloaded packages installation. put them empty folder, folder, run:

sudo dpkg -i *
thats

note: actual kernel 3.8, 3.1 quite old (maybe support hardware, maybe not (i cant remember oldish specs), choose newer kernel.
