Thread: Failed Boot - (amd-microcode - sudo apt-get update fail)

i stumped.

attempt boot ubuntu 12.10, type code unlock disk, , ubuntu fails load. stuck on ubuntu logo.
did ctrl + alt + f1 , saw had failed load amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin.

have following amd hardware:
amd athlon ii x4 640 propus 3.0ghz socket am3 95w quad-core desktop processor adx640wfgmbox

his h677fn1gd radeon hd 6770 1gb 128-bit gddr5 pci express 2.1 x16 hdcp ready crossfirex support video card eyefinity

so googled around , found several "solutions" issue. however, reoccurring solution go recovery , root , type:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install amd64-microcode

when type in apt-get update , several others:

w: failed fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/di...ty/release.gpg not resolve 'security.ubuntu.com'

googled failed find solution.


going wrong?
can walk me through this? pretty confused.

it sounds mirror has been down when tried. work now, maybe after switching mirror?

a week ago in premiere pro cs6 world. one day updated windows, next day few .mp4 video files opened in premiere pro, played fine well, except fact display has green (sometimes multicolour, solid green block) bars in lower third of screen. see screenshot below.   these same files open/display fine in after effects, photoshop , vlc- , quicktime players. i'd read fromyears ago windows updates causing this, removed 1 of therecent kb's no avail. i did install adobemediaencodertrial_64-6.0.3-mul-adobeupdate and dynamiclinkmediaserverretail-1.0.1-mul-adobeupdate and reverted quicktime 7.6 but nothing makes difference.   in end, formatted c:\, reinstalled windows 7 ultimate 64bit , downloaded/installed 260 updates , reinstalled cs6 (and aforementioned ame , dlms updates , qt7.6) it's still same problem.   also tried exporting (part of) 1 of these files, see if wasn't display problem: exported file same properties original has green bars.   what else can do?   thanks in advanc
