Master sequence & settings

hello.

 

i'm new premiere please bear me. i've done lot of searching haven't been able find concrete answer.

 

it i'm approaching wrong way, lack of results searches.

 

as starter project want create short movie in string maybe dozen clips. montage.

 

upon loading premiere first time created new project , expected similar composition settings box in ae appear, set size , framerate of project. didn't appear.

 

having watched tutorials figured i'd need create sequence. did , pesented new sequence dialog full of presets, none of applied me (my sources comes in variety of sizes & formats). instead headed settings tab create own preset. seems work , created sequence 1920x1080 , 23.976fps - settings i'd use comp in ae.

 

i assume act master sequence place clips , scale/crop them desired.

 

is correct approach or doing wrong?

also, should scaling/cropping clips in ae first when import them premiere consistent?
