Thread: Data Recovery on a Galaxy S3 using Ubuntu

hi. i've been trying recover data erased during factory reset of galaxy s3.

plan is
(1) root device
(2) mount device on ubuntu computer
(3) use dd create image of phone's internal memory
(4) use tool scalpel recover data in image

stuck @ step 1. used following guide: http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-ro...n-linuxubuntu/ when tried run heimdall, got error: "heimdall error: failed initialise protocol!"

mean? tried restarting device, putting usb debug mode , starting on again, no avail. heimdall failed again , again. doing wrong?

(the scalpel part of solution came http://android.stackexchange.com/que...ile-on-android )

the main problem you're going have google removed usb mass storage oss starting ics, , continuing jb.

there should ways mount filesystem using mtp, , others have tried great lengths -- , have not been able work. have had resort mounting using mtp in win7 -- samsung device drivers lot.

i've read has been "fixed" in ubuntu 13.04 -- haven't had time install , try it. try booting liveusb of 13.04 , seeing if can mount sgs3.
