Thread: Install from USB

i bought samsung series 9 ultrabook (np900x4c-a05au) , trying install linux distribution (dual boot) on it.

machine won't boot usb (no cd drive), have disabled fast boot bios, used 2 different (ntfs formatted) usbs , tried 3 usb ports.

tried using unetbootin, universal usb installer, diskimager , linux live usb creator make image on usb.

tried using ubuntu, kubuntu , kali on usb.

pressing f10 can see usb in boot menu, machine not boot usb (even when disabling boot hdd in bios).

know else can try, or how fix this?

ultrabook complicates complicated uefi install intel uses raid desktop installer not see, , have optimus many working bumblebee.

need use 64 bit version of 12.10 or 12.04.2 , uefi menu boot flash drive in uefi mode. way install in uefi mode.
systems need quick boot or fast boot turned off in uefi settings. vital systems. best backup efi partition , windows partition first.
use windows disk tools shrink windows main partition, not create new partitions, if installing on same drive.

disable raid, using intel rapid management thingy , telling disable acceleration or use of ssd. if have different system, disable raid system install ubuntu. once installed can re-enable it.
sudo dmraid -e -r /dev/sda
sudo dmraid -e -r /dev/sdb
you need use dmraid command prior running ubuntu installer able see partitions on drive because otherwise raid metadata in place see drive part of raid set , ignore partitions.
