100% cpu usage mount.ntfs on external harddrive formatted windows 8. happens when loading 2 vmware virtual machines @ same time.

fat32 not supported external hard drive , exfat no go @ all. question problem. nasty new features in ntfs on windows 8? teacher told me format on windows 7. sounds stupid.

dual boot solution before uefi came.

if install windows 8 first on uefi. first 4 partitions windows. how partition rest ubuntu? need create additional new efi partition ubuntu?

second question if dual boot setup, , wish reinstall windows 8, windows 8 installed uefi/efi again, grub gone. how restoring dual boot then?

if have external drive , have uefi, sure format external gpt partitioning not old mbr(msdos) partitioning.

can have 1 efi partition per drive, if may ever boot drive, should have efi partition or leave room efi partition @ beginning of drive. , recommend every drive bootable.

can backup efi partition, not large. efi windows should overwrite folder, not other folders. versions of ubuntu/grub2 uefi support overwrote entire efi partition caused major issues.

if run auto recovery system overwrite entire hard drive erasing ubuntu. may better full backup of windows (and efi partition).
vendor recovery dvds image of drive purchased. if have housecleaned lot of cruft included, run many updates many reboots, , added software may want full up.

use windows shrink windows partition , reboot several times let run chkdsk , make repairs new size. , not create partitions windows prone converting dynamic partitions not work linux.

need use 64 bit version of 12.10 or 12.04.2 , uefi menu boot flash drive in uefi mode. way install in uefi mode.
systems need quick boot or fast boot turned off in uefi settings. vital systems. best backup efi partition , windows partition first.
use windows disk tools shrink windows main partition, not create new partitions, if installing on same drive.
