Thread: how to check if wifi is working

i have ubuntu 12.10 operating system......the wifi went out , messages says wifi disconnected , there no signal in upper right wifi signal indicator show signal strength.........

when using windows 7 can go control panel , device manager , check see if wifi working how do in ubuntu.........how check if wifi card toast or working........

when first installed ubuntu wifi worked fine, of sudden went out , no signal @ all......sure frustrating..........

on 12.10 go system settings>network. in left pane should see list wireless, wired (twice if have 2 ethernet adapters), ntework proxy.

select wireless , may see slider. set off? in right pane should see list of wireless networks (access points). see wireless network? select , more information available you.

unless want run terminal commands.
