Thread: Where to launch long running command on startup?

hi there
need launch python script during system startup, , script run "forever". thinking launching /etc/rc.local there's comment in there saying sure end script "exit 0".... i'm assuming implication other process waiting script finish , bad place launch script. right?

question becomes: how/where launch script automatically?

also, script writes regularly stdout, , need able peek @ output needed, shouldn't run in way it's output lost. (redirecting file, etc okay)

ideas great help.
thanks!
michael

hi michaelveloz.

if need when boot desktop, use 'startup applications' 'system settings'.

general boot task, may try using rc.local, sending background (using detached screen, nohup or '&'), although haven't tried that.

general alternative create crontab tag '@reboot' runs every time machine starts.

let know how goes.
regards.
