Thread: Installed Ubuntu onto a VirtualBox VM, has just been hanging :(

hi there,

complete beginner using linux, have briefly used terminal @ work before whilst following environment set-up instructions, , decided give ubuntu try on home w8 machine. have used virtual machines @ work before chose virtualbox try , , running. followed http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox tutorial , downloaded the ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i38 iso file site, created vm, entered details, set-up system, , rebooted. vm has:

2048mb ram
8gb hdd

appeared going fine:


but, after rebooting, screen appeared show orange dots 10-15 minutes, , promoted me hit enter. message popped installing updates, hit ok, , let run in background. time later went vm , appeared hanging - reset. when system loaded after this, received error message application no longer working. sent error report. waited - again - nothing. reset again. hanging again. can't seem past this:



ideas?
