Thread: GPU overheating with open source drivers

hello all!

first post here, hoping tried pretty find on internet related problem.

have hp pavilion dv6 laptop equipped ati mobility radeon 4650 gpu. using open source drivers instelled default since amd legacy drivers no longer support kernel , x version of ubuntu 13.04, i'm using.

i've been using ubuntu few months , it; been having issues overheating in 12.10 too.

i'd ask help, me overheating problems. laptop overheating when playing games, or when watching movies. i'm using program called lm-sensors measure temperatures. sometimes, when watching movie or playing hour or so, temps go 88 celsius, find quite unhealthy.

tried setting power_profile, located in /sys/drm/card0/device mid, , low, still overheats.

i'd appreciate kind of help, related power management, reducing temperatures, modifying system, drivers, something.

thank in advance.
