Thread: Interesting Problem with Supermicro X7DAL-E+

hello all, thought should in linux forums, since i'm interested in ubuntu (...and years come) figured should post here. here's posted on linux.com site, got no responses. maybe problem advanced? should need know in order me beast , running best os of time! hello future friends! plan on sticking around on site long time. encountered linux ubuntu , in love! love how helpful information there out there, , how helpful community out there well! here's problem: format partition using ubuntu, install ubuntu onto partition, ubuntu tells me it's been installed. however, when re-boot, won't boot hdd. i've messed around bunch in bios changing boot order, etc., can rule out. i'm pretty sure know problem is; there's intel 5000x chipset driver update need in order boot partition on hdd. here's how know this: first attempt @ installing ubuntu did said earlier; said installation successful, take out cd, re-boot system, , message "no operating system found." talked knows computers better on planet (...his first pc commodore 64, , he's been daily pc user since 1979.) , told me problem intel(r) 5000x chipset driver needs installed onto system in order able boot up. so, told me should install windows 7 first, along drivers, , run ubuntu virtual machine within windows. so, begrudgingly, attempted that. windows 7 allow me screen can install drivers. put them onto bootable flash drive, selected of them, , after half hour, windows pop saying so-and-so driver didn't install correctly. click , "ok" each of pop-ups. @ no point drivers installed. well, wouldn't let me move on next area install windows. so, after letting sit overnight running, still no change. decide re-boot, without windows disk. , guess what? ubuntu had installed works! so, guess somehow managed install necessary intel(r) 5000x chipset drivers, without installing windows. thought, "great!" comes along problem; had installed 32-bit version! know 32 work on both 32 , 64-bit machines, man, server board made personal computer. has 2 cpus, both of xeon dual-core 3.0 ghz. 1 serious machine acquired, , such, want using 64-bit os. so, delete had installed, tried install 64-bit os, , i'm right started. might thinking, "well, yeah, stupid, deleted drivers making previous work wasted!" well, that's true, reason why went ahead , deleted , started on because - before half-installed windows 7 5,000x chipset drivers - flashed bios. so, thinking updated bios allowed ubuntu os work, not drivers somehow installed onto hdd, though win 7 installation incomplete. so, guys have of background information available, suggest do? want ubuntu on there primary os, because it's design pretty ideal want doing computer. want install windows 7 on it, , have multi-boot machine. @ moment though, i'm dead in water , don't know do. can point me in right direction? thinking, maybe can boot ubuntu 64-bit cd, while connected web, install necessary drivers via terminal? assume there's way terminal screen, don't know. should do, guys , gals? hope guys can me, i'd love become advanced user of linux someday. best folks, quadraceps ps: let me know if there's other information need. if matters; yes, hdd serial ata. optical drive i'm not sure of, let me check... ok yeah, optical drive sata. motherboard once again supermicro x7dal-e+ 2 intel(r) xeon 3.0 ghz cpus. also, i've tried multiple hdds. i'm 100% positive intel(r) 5000x chipset driver issue.
