Preview file quality / online workflow

hi there,

i'm new premiere after switching fcp7.  1 area i'm struggling head around accuracy / quality of picture looking @ when grading/ finishing project.

in type of editing expected offline , grade, , fcp7 pro res workflow works in picture viewing full quality way through.

however in premiere using preview files seem looking @ lower quality pictures compared source footage on order give faster rendering time.

am right in assuming if want pictures accurately represent source footage need change preview file format match source footage / sequence format.  , if sacrificing performance / playback.?

any advice on murky area me hugely appreciated

most preview formats degrade footage degree, why it's recommended preview files not used export.

to prevent this, don't need format matches footage, need 1 that's lossless.  ut choice purpose.

prores , dnxhd not technically lossless, @ high settings, they're close enough used well.
