Thread: New PCI NICs Are Not Detected


problem: no new pci devices being detected. lspci not show devices. devices in question intel nics supported e1000 driver. makes no difference slot installed in. cannot see reference in dmesg output devices.

os: ubuntu server 12.04.2 lts

pci hardware:
  • 1x onboard intel 82589lm nic (functioning)
  • 1x onboard intel 82574l nic (functioning)
  • 2x pci-e intel 82574l nic (not detected)

background: functioning server intel nics installed previously. motherboard replaced under warranty , new onboard nics messed /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules presumably ubuntu saw different mac adresses , appended new cards onto end. fix followed advice elsewhere remove entries in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules , reboot. since reboot onboard cards being detected.

can this?

turns out odd bios issue. resetting bios defaults allowed them detected again.
