Thread: pre-compiled php extensions

i have installed php compiling first configure, make , make install. has become harder , harder compile (or install via apt-get) dependencies need compile application. webhost (bluehost) has system set can add line php.ini file add extension, no requirement web server restarted , nothing compile or download. make development process go smoothly because not take me whole day compile bunch of downloaded code add php extension.

best documentation have found ubuntu https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/php5.html. however, tells me how install php , hook apache, not how set can add extensions on fly. , mentions libapache2-mod-php5 package , php5-mysql package never needed compiled installation. making me nervous following directions tell me how install not how add extensions , requires components have never used before in current setup. i'm worried packaged version of php might not work compiled version of apache. worried install ubuntu php packages on compiled installation of php , leave system in state nothing works @ because 2 different php installations installed somehow. still use compiled version of apache. need change ubuntu package can interface libapache2-mod-php5 package?

don't want leave system in unusable state because don't have time make these changes, don't know best way transition compiled installation of php5 using pre-compiled packages , extensions.
