Thread: Shrink NTFS Full Disk Image

so trying migrate several windows virtual machines vmware xen running on ubuntu 12.04. have in xen working , have converted vmware images .img files. unfortunately, whoever set these servers gave them 400gb dynamically sized disks, when convert them, end 400gb .img files. i've been pulling hair out trying shrink them, keep coming short. when try use ntfsresize error :

code:
error(2): failed check '/absolute/disk/path' mount state: no such file or directory /etc/mtab missing. risky continue. might try linux distro
i have tried attaching loop using losetup gives same error. ideas?
