Thread: NTP installation problem

greetings,
tried install ntp synchronizing ntp between node , cloud controller..my nodes detected since ntp not synchronized dont th desired output. while installing ntp face following problem.

code:
eucalyptus@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ntp [sudo] password eucalyptus: reading package lists... done building dependency tree reading state information... done ntp newest version. following packages automatically installed , no longer required: linux-headers-2.6.32-38 linux-headers-2.6.32-45 linux-headers-2.6.32-45-generic-pae linux-headers-2.6.32-38-generic-pae linux-headers-2.6.32-45-generic use 'apt-get autoremove' remove them. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 0 not upgraded. 3 not installed or removed. after operation, 0b of additional disk space used. setting eucalyptus-common (1.6.2-0ubuntu30.5) ... chown: cannot access `/var/lib/eucalyptus/.gvfs': permission denied dpkg: error processing eucalyptus-common (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of eucalyptus-gl: eucalyptus-gl depends on eucalyptus-common; however: package eucalyptus-common not configured yet. dpkg: error processing eucalyptus-gl (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of eucalyptus-nc: eucalyptus-nc depends on eucalyptus-common; however: package eucalyptus-common not configured yet. eucalyptus-nc depends on eucalyptus-gl; however: package eucalyptus-gl not configured yet. dpkg: error processing eucalyptus-nc (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured no apport report written because error message indicates followup error previous failure. no apport report written because error message indicates followup error previous failure. errors encountered while processing: eucalyptus-common eucalyptus-gl eucalyptus-nc e: sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code (1)
can plz tell whats wrong , suppose dto fix it.
on viewing permisions .gvfs file seems permission denied root user..
how fix this.

in advance.

seems have package manager issue resolve before trying ntp working correctly. errors not seem have whatsoever ntp.

dpkg: error processing eucalyptus-common (--configure):
that issue. besides running sudo apt-get install -f, can't help. need fix package management before dealing other issue.

once do, current date/time on systems need close enough correct ntp converge on correct time. think being within 15 minutes close enough ntp.

ntp sorta works here linux. have 1 linux server on network gets time public sources, other machines sync off ... machines running ms-windows need synched every 15 minutes keep accurate time here - more 1 have large drifts amounts if sync less often. linux machines sync defaults after point ntp.conf @ local server , remove internet-based ....ntp.org settings. i've had problem multiple ms-windows machines since 1998 - different hardware setups, ms-wibndows. after machines have been upgraded linux, drift issue gone completely, isn't cmos battery or issue system clock - ms-windows.

luck getting package management cleaned up. perhaps can reimage problem machine using rex, puppet, chef or whatever tool use manage infrastructure?
