Thread: Repeated hard freezes after a firmware update

hello!

i'm new forum; past few months, i've been using hand-me-down toshiba satellite laptop 2006 ubuntu 10.04 installed on it. after spending of last night trying wireless usb adapter working, managed working today after finding following thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1667140

apparently missing firmware , upon installation of it, wireless usb adapter started working charm. however, since update, computer experiences hard freezes after being online (on either firefox or google chrome) approximately 45 minutes after starting computer. mouse not move; keyboard not work; screen goes black if load dos prompt , mouse stays on screen, again, won't move @ , hold down power button switch off.

googled old threads in cursory fashion didn't seem find related problem; after spending ten hours yesterday trying find solution wifi adapter problem turned out head-smackingly simple, don't want half night figuring out, thought i'd go ahead , ask. hope it's not issue computer old handle.

okay, crashed 3 times in row, first 2 times after trying pull google, third time when tried go straight facebook after pulling firefox. that's not good. when did, went black dos prompt screen , cursor turned pointing hand , froze.

a week ago in premiere pro cs6 world. one day updated windows, next day few .mp4 video files opened in premiere pro, played fine well, except fact display has green (sometimes multicolour, solid green block) bars in lower third of screen. see screenshot below.   these same files open/display fine in after effects, photoshop , vlc- , quicktime players. i'd read fromyears ago windows updates causing this, removed 1 of therecent kb's no avail. i did install adobemediaencodertrial_64-6.0.3-mul-adobeupdate and dynamiclinkmediaserverretail-1.0.1-mul-adobeupdate and reverted quicktime 7.6 but nothing makes difference.   in end, formatted c:\, reinstalled windows 7 ultimate 64bit , downloaded/installed 260 updates , reinstalled cs6 (and aforementioned ame , dlms updates , qt7.6) it's still same problem.   also tried exporting (part of) 1 of these files, see if wasn't display problem: exported file same properties original has green bars.   what else can do?   thanks in advanc
