Thread: 12.04 cannot reset password

i'm not sure happened, password have written down not working admin password. (i may have changed in frustrated session trying internet work @ sister's place.)

followed instructions @ http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword, happens:

in root@aspire-7520: directory [my root]

when type in
passwd username [yes, use real username]
system responds with
command not found

file suggest remount boot directory:
mount -o rw,remount /

system responds same prompt , no change.

stuck because cannot make changes system , cannot connect internet here @ son's place.

appreciate suggestions.

well, if passwd program missing , path correct, have bigger issues forgotten password.
using full path /usr/bin/passwd program work?
there relevant error messages in /var/log?
