Thread: partition delete?

i have 2 eee pc 900 netbooks , have been trying install ubuntu on both. first achieved successfully.

second not so. although appeared install ok, ran ‘disk space’ problems. looking further, found second machine has 2 drives (4gb & 16gb) whereas first has 1 (16gb).

2 drives take partitions. assuming deleting partitions might answer. disk utility has ‘edit’ and/or ‘delete’ partition options available reluctant delete without advice.

can walk me through should, or shouldn’t achieve 1 partition/drive situation. or, else might solve ‘disk space’ problem?

the 2 drives on second eeepc 900 2 physical drives, not partitions, won't able delete them.

disk utility call partitions? if "/dev/sda1" , "/dev/sdb1" (notice 2 different letters), separate drives. if "/dev/sda1" , "/dev/sda2", on same drive.

i've had ubuntu on eeepc 900 (with 2 drives) 4 years. there 2 things helpful in dealing disk space issues.

1 have os on smaller drive , /home directory on larger drive. when install, there's opportunity put /home directory on drive. if don't want reinstall, there instructions available on how shift /home directory 1 place another.

other thing watch install, , clean out software cache regularly. cache can build if trying out different packages, if delete them. packages downloaded upgrades accumulate there.
