Thread: Which Backup to NAS with compression - can be stopped/started?

hi all

have irregular power live. prefer backup solution can stop , continue later.

i'm backing external hd (usb 3.0) onto nas (on fast ethernet). 1 thing backing 800 gb directory containing family photos, saved ebooks, notes, sorts of files. guess can save lot of space compression.

best backup solution me? thought of using tar (with compression). have problem backups have suspend/stop part way through.

started going through posts backup solutions, such rsync, i'm not knowledgeable enough evaluate these solutions. therefore throw myself upon wisdom of collective. please let me know solutions *won't* work me, @ least can @ possibles.

rsync work since updates files have changed since last backup. there lots of tutorials available different configurations. next investment should ups put nas, pc, , router on. many file formats compressed (music , photos example) not saving compression, adding backup risk.
