Thread: Installation blank screen

hey,

quite new ubuntu. have used few times inthe past wanted set media server , ubuntu server meant best, fastest , universal of os's i've looked at.

took old pc wasn't being used, removed hdd person got wanted keep encase pc died, put hdd in , give them computer back. not perfect situation best can atm. added free-standing hdd media files on (2 partitions, 1 empty) hp paviliion m1070 computer. when attempt install ubuntu server 12.04.2 lts cd burnt, nothing, complete blank screen. have use secondary drive (dvd-rom) primary disc drive broken , can't open, unplugged it.

when go boot menu of mobo , select dvd-rom drive screen comes blank. checked cd on main , boots install, have no idea why won't on old computer. because vga monitor cable plugged gpu (as mobo doesn't have monitor port)?

secondary dvd-rom drive dead. after booting old hdd (xp) drive still didn't work. managed open primary disc drive using paper clip release hole. after smooth sailing.
