Thread: Something went wrong when I was installing an application

something went wrong when installing application (geany)

told run manually sudo dpkg --configure -a

when get

sudo: unable open /var/lib/sudo/thorbjrn/1: read-only file system
dpkg: error: unable access dpkg status area: read-only file system

can make sense of this?

sounds hard drive remounted read only. that's because system has detected file system damage. boot ubuntu live cd or live usb, make sure disk unmounted, , run fsck command in terminal.
thing can run dmesg command , last few lines might give information why disk remounted read-only.
