Thread: partitions problem

hello. installed last night ubuntu 10.12 , selected options installs ubuntu on windows 7 (thinking install win7 later).

can't see windows partitions @ all. don't have permissions mount hdd drive , df -h says:

/dev/sda1 455g 3.6g 429g 1% /
udev 1.9g 4.0k 1.9g 1% /dev
tmpfs 764m 916k 763m 1% /run
none 5.0m 0 5.0m 0% /run/lock
none 1.9g 252k 1.9g 1% /run/shm
none 100m 32k 100m 1% /run/user
the cachy thing last night saw partitions dev/sda1,dev/sda2,dev/sda3 how in windows.
need them back, didn't save thing important things.

how can see them? @ least copy them external drive or

when installed, did select "use entire disk" or "something else" , select windows partition install ubuntu on? in first case gone, meaning need recovery tools information back. don't use disk in case, , boot live disk. in other case windows system gone, data partition should still present. indicated still saw partitions (specifically sda2 , sda3, have not been mounted ubuntu), let's assume latter.

can try commands (note lower case l)
code:
sudo fdisk -l sudo blkid
it should list partitions present on system, can see whether windows partitions still present. if present, should possible mount them.

besides, assume meant 12.10. also, if want dual boot, it's easier not mandatory install windows first , ubuntu later.
