yes, there's problem. have pretty new firmware support both cdc mbim , "legacy" qmi/wwan + serial mode. using 2 configurations (see cfg#= 2). linux selects cdc mbim configuration default because standard class functions preferred on vendor specific functions.

now, should ideally have worked , there driver can see. there no userspace support management protocol yet, , required connect. wip, still in process. see http://sigquit.wordpress.com/2013/02...on-to-libmbim/

so, unless want start developing (that appreciated, of course voluntary), option manually override linux default , select configuration #1 instead. should supported recent modemmanager. can change configurations on command line using
code:
 sudo echo 1 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1.5/bconfigurationvalue
unfortunately, mc7710 firmware has few bugs may hit @ point above not enough. absolutely best create udev rule on boot. prevent problems. maybe (completely untested) rule:

code:
action!="add|change", goto="mbim_to_qmi_rules_end"  subsystem!="usb", goto="mbim_to_qmi_rules_end"  # ignore device 1 configuration attr{bnumconfigurations}=="1", goto="mbim_to_qmi_rules_end"  # force sierra wireless mc7710 configuration #1 attr{idvendor}=="1199",attr{idproduct}=="68a2",attr{bconfigurationvalue}="1"  label="mbim_to_qmi_rules_end"
put in file under /etc/udev/rules.d/ , see if job.

note temporary workaround until linux mbim support finished. using superior, providing standardized management protocol. take time finish.
