Book with 1 chapter made of 2 files: sub-chapter number (4.x) does not continue in next document

i have id-book made out of 10 indesign documents. fine, 1 thing.

one of chapters (#4) made out of 2 id documents: "chapter4a.indd“ , "chapter4b.indd". chapter number, automatically given book, correct: 4. numbering of next below level (4.x) wrong. in file „chapter4a.indd“ have sub-chapters 4.1, 4.2 , 4.3. in „chapter4b.indd“ starts yet again 4.1 instead of 4.4.

where mistake?

merging 2 id files "chapter4a.indd“ , "chapter4b.indd" 1 not option, unfortunately.

is possible let sublevel chapter number (4.x) continue after id-document change or start @ ".1" once again because it's in new document?

thanks help!

i don't lot of work numbered lists, particularly multi-level, i'm sure numbering cannot cross documents way. think, though, second half document can redefine second level numbering start @ correct number, rather 1 or continue previous.
