Thread: First timer trying to get internet connected

hi.

windows user given relatively new (<10 years old) pc friend because upgrading. decided try linux kind of hobby , heard things ubuntu.
pc gave me compaq hp 1.5gb memory , 160 gb hard drive, no built-in wireless capability. there ethernet card in machine. decided install ubuntu , went fine of course there no internet connection.

existing computer windows 7 hp laptop machine connected wirelessly verizon fios internet connection , tv , phone connected through fios well. working fine. service person verizon did me clueless wireless technology.

can me need here in terms of purchasing equipment enable me connect ubuntu box through fios, , configuring ubuntu? need router? verizon service person gave me network name , security key.

(apologies if thread in wrong section. put here because have been using linux less week , feel such basic question. feel free move thread. )

hi, vz box..wireless able wired.
since using wireless feature on
vz unit different computer, can one
of 2 things, buy or aquire ethernet cable , plug
box, or...buy wireless usb stick , plug into
ubuntu box, (make sure usb linux able). if doesnt load
stop in , help. now, ethernet cable,
plug in ubuntu box can load os. , lastly welcome !
