Thread: Same files are two different sizes.


i'm sure there's simple explanation.

i'm backing pc external device , backup never same. same amount of files , subfolders size difference of 100 bytes or so. why this?

file size or disk usage? if backup drive has different block size may change internal fragmentation, changing disk usage same files. that's because drives not addressable on byte level, on higher level. same happens if first concatenate files (like packing them in tar archive). reduces internal fragmentation , disk usage.

, i'm not sure this, size of directories might change on different partition type.
