in windows there command, know, called tracert <ip address> logs different gateways etc , can used identify connection issue. have tried google linux alternative unable understand of :\

possible have explanation of how use in laymans terms please?

yes traceroute has lot of options, @ simplest can use same windows tracert i.e.

code:

traceroute <ipaddress>

however iirc traceroute no longer installed default - if don't want install can use tracepath instead

code:

tracepath <ipaddress>

you can use man tracepath find out more
