Thread: MPD + PulseAudio annoyance with network sinks

i have mpd running on ubuntu server 10.04.4 lts. sends output 2 local audio devices (using module-combine sync them) , 2 other network sinks, windows boxes running pulseaudio 1.1 windows binary. have 3 outputs set in mpd, local combined sink , 2 remote sinks. setup works pretty well, use qmpdclient control playback on server machine, , can send output other rooms in house through network windows boxes.

there 1 major problem/annoyance: when have 1 of network outputs enabled in mpd, computer turned off or pulseaudio client shut down whatever reason, other sinks/outputs, including local ones on server, freak out , cause skipping in playback. verbose logging shows buffer underruns, rewinds & such. if disable output in mpd non-existent sink, order returns.

significant annoyance. i'm trying educate girlfriend on using mpd setup, issue becoming stumbling block; it's not obvious 1 needs disable output others behave.

have tried using http streaming windows boxes, suffers 2 issues: 1) stream shuts down when playlist ends , has manually restarted; 2) high latency.

suggestions? there options can enabled in mpd or pulseaudio config files? or way manually disable outputs when disappear on network?

thanks!

p.s. annoying issue had was getting rude pop/click noise once every few minutes when running pulseaudio 1.1 on 1 of windows boxes through sb audigy sound card, when no audio being sent pulseaudio. problem went away when switched on-board audio interface rather audigy, doesn't sound good, it's work-around can live with. i'll take suggestions on issue if has ideas.
